Luxury Design From Modenus Blog Tour During New York’s Design Week

Designing space for your multiple generations is not always easy or seamless. Sometimes we find generations have different thoughts about style, function or even what constitutes Luxury Design in the moment. At Couture Chateau my team and I spend a great deal of time learning about the best design has to offer so we can educate you, our cherished client base. Once we educate, it’s time for edits.

Here is where wisdom comes in to play.

I like wisdom. It designs. It listens and learns. It also chooses. And edits fiercely.

How to share our newest discoveries so you can wisely edit? Tough call. There are so many. Over the next two weeks, we are compiling blog posts so you can glean the best and leave the rest. Here is a quick run down from our most recent trip.

During Design Week, we traversed the country from San Francisco to New York courtesy of Modenus and touched base with:

Kips Bay Show House: Dacor has a 48″ Range I’d like to find a property for & Mark Sikes hit it out of the park. Who knew live edge worked in the kitchen and red gingham could be au courant.

International Contemporary Furniture Faire, “ICFF”: One of the most beautiful, civilized trade shows I have ever attended. No lines, beautiful booths, excellent product, gracious dealers. And next door to the National Stationery Show. #score. We also had the honor of chatting with WilsonArt’s STUDENT designers, products pictured below. Their collaboration is quite remarkable.

WilsonArt: Stewarding next-gen custom designers with backing, support and exposure. Curating greatness? Yes, please.

Frieze Art Faire: We were on an adventure this time, not an acquisition tour for clients, however my blouse did match one of the pieces. Met Sotheby’s team from China. More on that later… #offcontinentprojects

Museum of the City of New York: Private tour courtesy of Tamara Stephenson.

Tamara Stephenson: We dined in her home post tour. Over good food and laughter Tamara shared her heart behind Root Cellar Designs which is bringing custom to the table top world. I still want a skirt Tamara. Very #nest #classicdinnerparty.

Wanted Design: To find the next big thing. From Brooklyn to Ireland and beyond. These clocks from Brooklyn designer Stefan Rurak are deeply prophetic to me. White hands, charred wood. Beautiful & eerie at the same time. I love artists. Notice the three nails. #profound. #selah.

Chelsea Market & Assorted Faires: To cool our heels and shop, nibble & chat.

Antique Topiary Cement

DeGustibus Cooking School: For a private party. Dancing + Diffa1.2. Raffle prizes & fancy chefs. #goodfood #laufenbathroom

Laufen Bathrooms: I’m hooked. Clean lines, exquisite design.laufen tub 800

MoMA: For the opening night ICFF party. Music and joviality ensued. I took some very artsy (for me) instagram video. #teenagesonapproved

Aire Ancient Baths + Mr Steam: This California girl waded through steam, salt, hot, hotter, cold, colder, bubbly and mud. It was aha-mazing. All clean and sparkly, we were blessed to receive Tala Gift Sets. Let me tell you, Argan Oil is wonderful.

We ended our Grand Tour at Ink 48 + The Press Room: 240 degree views, private roped off roof top party courtesy of Mr Steam. The singing made me feel like I was back in my childhood home, people playing both pianos in the living room. When they broke out in Moon River, I could have sworn Mother and Dad looked from heaven. #memories.

As mentioned before, over the next two weeks, my team and I will share thoughts on manufacturers we met. As Dr. Suess would say #ohtheplaceswego. It was an incredible week and I am deeply thankful to Veronika Miller, Founder of Modenus for the honor.

Side note: Everyone in NYC seems to be taller than the California Redwoods. A few of us noted we were in the land of the giants. Next time? I bring higher heels.
